"Geek the Library" Essay

GEEKING BLUFFTON PUBLIC LIBRARY:

as described by a True Crime geek

By Anita Bogart

I love/geek our Bluffton Public Library for many reasons; however, I’d like to relate these to you as I am - an admitted, genuine True Crime geek.

Although I have always considered myself to be an upright, law-abiding person, I readily concede to being an honest-to-goodness geek when it comes to reading about forensics, as well as serial killers, murders, murderers, crime and all that.

As all geeks know, going to the Bluffton library is always an awesome experience. The sensation I feel, upon entering the door, is comparable to arriving at a state-of-the-art research laboratory, where everything I will need for case delving is near-at-hand. Then and there, I am transformed.  I become a tenacious private investigator.

I cannot say enough about the librarians!  Of course, in my case, I think of them as my very own “research assistants.”  They stand ready and willing, patiently waiting to “aid and abet” me in my never-ending quest. We are all engaged in tracking down hard-to-find, difficult-to-get, new, and most exciting True Crime volumes.

These assistants have proven to be dedicated fact-finders and experts in scrutiny.  Just for the asking, my helpers clarify and illuminate the path I need to take to discover more clues regarding my favorite library genre. They have never let me down!

They work so hard.  The legwork the librarians must expend while assisting is appreciated by me, and, I am sure, by other sleuths such as myself - the seeker of the perfect, most fascinating Dewey Decimal 364-type book.

Our library even has terrific seminars. A recent one featured the very interesting subject of Tea. I really enjoyed it, since, as Crime geeks know, tea was the favored refreshment of one of the greatest fictional detectives, Sherlock Holmes!  I learned so much that day. The best thing is, the library has these often - more chances to learn with fellow geeks!

I love to visit my Bluffton Library - it’s a fantastic forum to search and discover the true treasure in our community. That’s why I geek my library!
